Together with the Nobel Prize winners Alvin Roth and Robert Wilson, Stanford University, the Cologne economists Axel Ockenfels and Peter Cramton published a commentary in the journal Nature on emergency procedures and crisis tactics in pandemic situations. In this paper, the economists make recommendations for a correct distribution of life-saving equipment and how modern algorithms can be used to optimize their allocation.
