Ottmar Edenhofer and Matthias Kalkuhl from the Berlin climate research institute MCC and Axel Ockenfels, C-SEB board speaker at the University of Cologne, assess the German climate package positively. Although many consider the CO2 price to be too low and criticise the climate package as unambitious, the climate researchers argue that the “contribution to solving the problem of international coordination and cooperation” should not be underestimated. And they find that the current course of the European Parliament’s Green Deal is also creating an incentive for other countries to readjust their climate policies.
