The American Energy Society recommends in the forefront of the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow the paper “Focusing Climate Negotiations On a Uniform Common Commitment Can Promote Cooperation” by Klaus Schmidt and Axel Ockenfels about the design of climate negotiations. Utilizing a laboratory experiment and game theoretical analysis, they find that the success of negotiations to promote cooperation strongly depends on the kind of commitment negotiated.
