Children and adolescents are particularly affected by the current situation given its impact on their education and various other opportunities for development. The ramifications run even deeper among this age group because childhood and adolescence are periods of life with unique socialisation requirements, during which experiences are highly formative. Due to the plasticity of the human brain and individual resilience, most children and adolescents will, in all likelihood, be able to overcome the challenges and deficits caused by the pandemic. Some will, however, suffer negative consequences in the short, medium and probably long term.
