How C-SEB supports its researchers<\/h1>\r\nThe Center for Social and Economic Behavior (C-SEB) runs programs to create a productive working environment and to promote collaborations among scientists. This includes measures to foster scientific exchange, to fund research endeavors, to support junior scientists, and to promote equal opportunities.\r\n\r\n\n <\/div>\r\n\n <\/div>\r\n\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\r\n\r\n\n

Scientific exchange<\/h2>\r\nGiven the collaborative character of research in economics and psychology, scientific exchange is crucial. C-SEB organizes workshops and conferences to foster communication across disciplines and research units.\r\n
\r\n\r\nThe annual “C-SEB Workshop” is the central event at which the C-SEB members meet to present and discuss their work. In addition, internationally renowned researchers working at the intersection of psychology and economics are regularly invited to Cologne to present their findings. Junior researchers have the opportunity to discuss their progress with each other and leading scholars in their field during joint workshops and conferences, which C-SEB conducts together with its international partners. Researchers from other international institutions visit the center as participants of the UoC Global Faculty Program<\/a>. They stay in Cologne for extended periods of time every year to collaborate with our research units and to offer teaching to our students.\r\n<\/div>

Research stays<\/h2>\r\nThe C-SEB visiting programs (incoming and outgoing) aim to increase cooperation with international academic institutions as well as international networking at the University of Cologne (UoC).\r\n
\r\n\r\nThe “C-SEB International Fellowship Program” enables visiting scientists from other institutions with a close research connection to topics of the center to spend time at the UoC. The “C-SEB Visitor Program” supports C-SEB members in the realization of stays abroad.\r\n<\/div>

Equal opportunities<\/h2>\r\nC-SEB is strongly committed to promoting equity in academia and offers a variety of support services to its members.\r\n
\r\n\r\nAll C-SEB members can receive support for equal opportunity measures. Young female<\/i> scientists have the opportunity to undertake thematically relevant research stays and to network and exchange ideas with established researchers in their field. Coaching, training, and consulting services on gender-related topics are provided by C-SEB in cooperation with the “Female Career Program” of the University of Cologne (UoC). In addition, C-SEB supports the UoC’s measures to improve the compatibility of family and career: C-SEB members can use the university’s daycare center and benefit from the UoC’s childcare service. For researchers with children, there is also a well-equipped parent-child office and a mobile children’s room (KidsBox) at each of our main locations. If childcare is not available, members can receive financial support to take their child to conferences and meetings.\r\n\r\n<\/div>

Junior researcher promotion<\/h2>\r\nC-SEB promotes young scientists through continuing education, academic exchange, international networking, and independent funding.\r\n
\r\n\r\nJunior scientists participate in seminars and attend workshops to identify unexplored areas of interdisciplinary research. Core competences such as advanced empirical research techniques, scientific writing skills, and presentation skills are integrated through workshops of the Cologne Graduate School in Management, Economics and Social Sciences as well as the graduate school of the Faculty of Human Sciences; external training offers can also be supported. C-SEB promotes networking of young scientists by facilitating meetings with our international guests. In addition, C-SEB provides funding for junior scientists to attend international conferences and to realize research stays.\r\n\r\n<\/div>

Funding Opportunities<\/h2>\r\n\r\n

So far, C-SEB has awarded funding to outstanding scientists in the fields of behavioral economics and social cognition research in a total of 21 funding rounds. An overview of current and completed projects can be found here: https:\/\/c-seb.de\/en\/research\/projects\/<\/a>. The application deadline for the current 22nd<\/sup> funding round is April 30th<\/sup>, 2026.<\/p> \r\n\r\n

Calls for proposals for the next funding round will be announced to the eligible researchers by e-mail in due time (application deadline April 30, 2026).<\/p>\r\n\r\n
