As one of the University of Cologne&#8217;s Research Centers, C-SEB provides funding for outstanding individuals and excellent collaborative research projects in the field of behavioral economics and social cognition.<\/p>\r\n<p>To initiate new research projects and motivate scientific exchange, C-SEB invites applications by <strong>C-SEB (associated) members<\/strong> for <strong>C-SEB Seedcorn Grants<\/strong>. This includes tenured and non-tenured professors, and postdoctoral researchers (a) who either are employed by the University of Cologne (UoC) or (b) who receive a stipend (from the UoC or other organizations) <u>and<\/u> whose main affiliation is with the UoC. Across all research funding lines, each individual may submit only one application per round as lead applicant. The project must aim at generating external funding.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"slidedown-wrapper\"><div class=\"slidedown-content\" style=\"display:none;\">\r\n<p><strong>In order to complete your online application, you will be asked to agree to the following terms:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul><li>The information provided in this application is accurate to the best of my knowledge. <span style=\"color:tomato\">I agree to notify C-SEB immediately of any changes or additions.<\/span> I understand that incomplete or incorrectly completed applications (e.g., improper formatting, illegible text) or applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered for the respective funding period.<\/li><\/ul>\r\n<ul><li>I have read and understood the <a href=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2020_06_ERSP_Verwendungsrichtlinien_dt_eng.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">UoC Guidelines for the Use of Funds ERSP<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/uni.koeln\/2BM6P\" target=\"_blank\">UoC Guidelines for Good Scientific Practice<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025-06-25_UoC-Publication-Guidelines.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">UoC Publication Guidelines<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/uni.koeln\/THA5Y\" target=\"_blank\">UoC Hospitality Guidelines<\/a>* and will abide by these rules. I understand that it is my responsibility to ensure that collaborating researchers also adhere to these guidelines.<\/li><\/ul>\r\n<ul><li><span style=\"color:tomato\">I agree to pre-register my research plans (including pre-testing of research materials, etc.) and to obtain approval from my Faculty&#8217;s ethics committee<\/span>  (if you wish to use another established ethics committee in your field, please contact the C-SEB Central Office first) before collecting data and before receiving funds from C-SEB. I am aware that applications for an exemption are generally not approved.<\/li><\/ul>\r\n<ul><li>I understand that disbursed funds may only be used for the research project for which they were granted and may only be accessed for expenses invoiced within the funding period; advances not invoiced within the funding period must be returned to C-SEB. I agree to submit all receipts no later than one month after the end of the funding period. <span style=\"color:tomato\">I understand that funding can only be accessed as long as my contract\/stipend specified in this application has not expired.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\r\n<ul><li>If I receive funding from C-SEB, I agree to present my findings at a future C-SEB event upon invitation. <span style=\"color:tomato\">I also agree to submit a final report of 2-3 pages no later than three months after the end of the funding period.<\/span> In the final report, I will provide information on the scientific progress achieved and on how the funds were spent using the categories of the financial plan outlined in my application.<\/li><\/ul>\r\n<p>I am aware that non-compliance with any of these rules may result in the reclaiming of funds, irrespective of other potential implications.<\/p>\r\n<p><small><i>* Accessible only within the network of the University of Cologne.<\/i><\/small><\/p>\r\n<\/div><div class=\"slidedown-toggle\">Learn more <i class=\"fa fa-angle-double-down\"><\/i><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"selection\">Selection procedure<\/h2>\r\n<p>The content of the research project must relate to C-SEB&#8217;s overall topics. Decisive criteria for the granting of funds are the scientific quality and originality as well as the cost-effectiveness of the proposed research project. The C-SEB Executive Board selects among the duly received proposals. Please be prepared to give a short presentation on your proposed project should we ask you to do so.<br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"application\">Application procedure<\/h2>\r\n<p>The application deadline is <strong>April 30<sup>th<\/sup>, 2026<\/strong>. Applications are submitted via a LimeSurvey questionnaire; the link to the questionnaire is emailed to eligible researchers. Please <strong>prepare the required documents and information listed below<\/strong>. Once you have started the application questionnaire, you can <strong>create a login<\/strong> to resume the questionnaire again later (&#8220;Resume later&#8221; in the upper right corner of the survey).<br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"documents\">Required documents<\/h2>\r\n<p>Please prepare the following documents for upload in <strong>PDF<\/strong> format:<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Research Proposal<\/strong> &mdash; Proposals are limited to 2 pages plus references (&leq; 1 page) using the mandatory .docx template (<a href=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rd22-2026_Research-Grants_Template-Proposal.docx\" target=\"_blank\">download<\/a> &#11123;), converted into a single PDF file for upload. Proposals must be written in a way that is easily understood by scientists in both the economics and psychology disciplines. Proposals must include information on theoretical background, hypotheses, methods, and financial planning.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>CV(s)<\/strong> &mdash; Short CVs of all researchers involved (&leq; 2 pages each, 1 PDF file per CV), i.e., at least the lead applicant plus collaborating researchers, if applicable.<br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"information\">Required information<\/h2>\r\n<p>Please prepare the following information for entry into the questionnaire in <strong>plain text<\/strong> format:<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Summary project description<\/strong> &mdash; A summary of your proposal of 850 characters or less.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Relevance to C-SEB&#8217;s thematic focus and interdisciplinary relevance<\/strong> &mdash; A description of your project&#8217;s relevance to C-SEB&#8217;s thematic focus and of its interdisciplinary relevance in 850 characters or less: How will your project contribute to C-SEB&#8217;s overall research agenda and to research in other C-SEB-related disciplines?<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Intended third-party funding<\/strong> &mdash; A description of the intended future third-party funding in 600 characters or less: Please name the targeted funding source and line; indicate the anticipated status of the project one year after submission of this application and explain how a C-SEB Seedcorn Grant may contribute to achieve this status; please describe as specifically as possible.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Explanation of the financial plan<\/strong> &mdash; Prepare an explanation of the requested funds (which is also a part of the research proposal) of 850 characters or less that briefly describes your specific calculations for each expense category. Calculate the cost of student assistants based on <a href=\"https:\/\/verwaltung.uni-koeln.de\/wirtschaft_und_finanzen\/content\/e138984\/e1813\/e50575\/e62917\/e122411\/PANDA-WerteHKs2026_ger.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">PANDA<\/a> &#11123;. If you plan to work with providers\/companies abroad (e.g., Prolific), include\/add the 19% VAT that the UoC has to pay to the German tax office. If the requested C-SEB funding (max. 6,500 \u20ac) covers only a portion of the total funds needed, please state the total amount needed and explain where the missing amount will come from.<\/p>\r\n<p><i>If applicable:<\/i> <strong>Explanation for resubmission<\/strong> &mdash; If this or a similar project has been submitted for funding before, please describe where and when. If applicable, include the amount of funding awarded (and how it was used) or the reasons for previous rejections. Applications previously rejected by C-SEB may only be resubmitted, if a C-SEB Executive Board member endorses the application.
