Angela Dorrough conducts research on the influences of stereotypes, gender, and culture on behavior and on decision-making in social dilemmas.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Leo Spitzer Prize for Junior Researchers is awarded to outstanding young researchers in the arts, humanities, and human sciences in memory of the renowned Austrian-Jewish Romanist and literary theorist Leo Spitzer. The prize is endowed with \u20ac 30,000 over a period of two years to promote top-level research.<br \/><br \/><br \/><\/p>\r\n\n                <\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-xs-offset-0 col-sm-12 col-sm-offset-0 col-md-6 col-md-offset-0\">\n                    \r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2022-07_Best-Paper-Award_CU-HA-AK.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Christian Unkelbach, Hans Alves, and Alex Koch\" width=\"300px\" height=\"150px\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"10\" \/>C-SEB Vice Speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/soccco.uni-koeln.de\/christian-unkelbach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christian Unkelbach<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soco.ruhr-uni-bochum.de\/soco\/team\/hans.html.en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hans Alves<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagobooth.edu\/faculty\/directory\/k\/alex-koch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alex Koch<\/a> received the renowned <b>Best Social Cognition Paper Award<\/b> 2020 of the <a href=\"http:\/\/social-cognition.info\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Social Cognition Network<\/a> for their paper <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/bs.aesp.2020.04.005\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Negativity Bias, Positivity Bias, and Valence Asymmetries<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p>The authors provide a new theoretical explanation for the negativity bias, in which bad things are perceived as stronger than good things. The C-SEB Workshop took place on May 18<sup>th<\/sup>, 2022 at IN VIA and in person. Oliver G\u00fcrtler and Iris Schneider again put together a great <a href=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/2022-05-18_C-SEB-WS_Program_Update_2022-05-17.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">program<\/a>! &#8211; and came back to tell us about their experiences.<\/p> \r\n\n                <\/div>\r\n\n                <\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"row\">\n                    \r\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-xs-offset-0 col-sm-12 col-sm-offset-0 col-md-6 col-md-offset-0\">\n                    \r\n<p>Alexandra G\u00f6dderz on her research visit with <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.ucr.edu\/app\/home\/profile\/arthurc\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jimmy Calanchini<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucr.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">University of California Riverside<\/a>:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<blockquote><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/2022-07_C-SEB-Stories_Alexandra-Goedderz.jpg\" height=\"135px\" width=\"240\" align=right hspace=10 \/>&#8220;As a mother and a PhD candidate I think a lot about the compatibility of having a family and a career. <a href=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/C-SEB-Equal-Opportunity-Measures_Info-Sheet_2022-03.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">C-SEB\u2019s Equal Opportunity Measures<\/a> made it possible to realize a 2-month research stay at the University of California Riverside anyway \u2013 not least because the financial support allowed me to bring my 1-year old child and a caregiver (my husband). The setup allowed me to realize a very inspiring and intensive research stay. I benefited from participating in various activities, such as brownbag meetings, and from being part of a larger <a href=\"https:\/\/rssclab.ucr.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">research group<\/a>. Together with Jimmy Calanchini, I started a highly successful project on regional gender stereotypes and their relationship with the representation of women in the workforce and parental leave policies. We already presented the results at a conference in Barcelona and are accepted to submit this research to a special issue. These important steps in my career made the stay a great success!&#8221;<\/blockquote><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n\n                <\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-xs-offset-0 col-sm-12 col-sm-offset-0 col-md-6 col-md-offset-0\">\n                    \r\n<p>Max Grossmann on his participation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upf.edu\/web\/beslab\/summer-school-for-computational-and-experimental-economics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1<sup>st<\/sup> BESLab Computational and Experimental Economics Summer School<\/a>:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/2022-07_C-SEB-Stories_Universitat-Pompeu-Fabra.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Universitat Pompeu Fabra by Max Grossmann\" height=\"135px\" width=\"240\" align=right hspace=10 \/>&#8220;In this intensive summer school at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, outstanding early-career scientists from various economics-related backgrounds met to learn about computational and experimental methods and their intersection. Over the course of one week, we were taught by world-renowned researchers on how to use computational methods to find equilibria without heroic assumptions. <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mrpg\/abm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In our group project<\/a>, we simulated an educational game on a common-pool resource with a prior public goods game that has a cooperative Nash equilibrium that is difficult to reach. We also learned how to use agent-based modelling to design new experiments. This summer school enabled awesome interactions with other motivated scholars, both among the students and faculty. It was really cool! Thanks, C-SEB, for funding this opportunity.&#8221;<\/blockquote><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n\n                <\/div>\r\n\n                <\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"row\">\n                    \r\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-xs-offset-0 col-sm-12 col-sm-offset-0 col-md-12 col-md-offset-0\">\n                    \r\n<p>C-SEB offers funding for outgoing researchers (<a href=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/C-SEB-Visitor-Program_Rd14_Info-Sheet.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Visitor Program<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/C-SEB-Equal-Opportunity-Measures_Info-Sheet_2022-03.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Female Travel Grants<\/a>) and incoming\/visiting researchers (<a href=\"https:\/\/c-seb.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/C-SEB-Int-Fellowship-Program_Rd14_Info-Sheet.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">International Fellowship Program<\/a>). All C-SEB members are eligible to apply. Students not only research how people work together across cultures and nations and the underlying cognitive processes, but also experience collaboration across cultures and nationalities first-hand, enriching their academic experience.
